Perry Slingsby Systems has been involved in the design, manufacture, testing / commissioning and operation of manned Rescue Submersible Vehicles (SRVs) since the production of the first "LR" class submersible in 1974.

Today's SRVs free fly under battery power, are capable of diving to depths of 600 meters to rescue up to 18 submariners per dive and are piloted by a three man crew.  The pressure hull is made from high-strength structural steel and incorporates two main access hatches:  one underneath the SRV for dry transfer from the disabled submarine and one in the aft of the SRV for "transfer-under-pressure" to the hyperbaric decompression facility located on the Mother Ship.  A large view-port gives 360° visibility from the conning tower.

The Propulsion and Control systems are designed for the efficient use of energy from the latest Traction Battery Technology.

The complete system comprises the SRV, an Intervention Class ROV (IROV) used to locate and survey the Distressed Submarine (DISSUB), Deck Located Control Rooms, Launch and Recovery Systems, Power Generator and Emergency Life Saving System Pods.

Today's SRVs have many new and innovative design features to aid and assist in the rapid and safe rescue of distressed submarine crew, such as

· High strength structural steel hull
· Large view-port to give good all around visibility
to the pilot and two crew members
· Propulsion and control systems powered by the latest
  Traction Battery technology
· Increased depth capability to 600 meters
· Full complement of 21 persons

The complete rescue system is air transportable for rapid deployment to a port close to the distressed submarine location and mobilized onto a vessel of opportunity.

Perry Slingsby Systems is proud to be recognized as the manufacturer of choice by so many of the world’s navies. We believe due to our innovative approach to design and manufacture coupled with our unique package of engineering and after sales support, we will continue to be the world’s number one provider of SRVs.

Much of the technology developed by Perry Slingsby Systems for the Oil & Gas market has been further developed for applications in military markets. This includes ROVs, manipulator arms for torpedo recovery and remotely controlled land vehicles for bomb disposal.

Through its involvement in rescue submersibles, Perry Slingsby Systems retains its composite design expertise and has been involved in the design and manufacture of many other specialized marine structures.
