April 2005 - Perry Slingsby Systems has been awarded contract with BP Shaz Deniz

Perry Slingsby Systems (PSS) is pleased to announce that they have been awarded a contract to design, manufacture, assemble, and test a system which will provide the ballasting, flooding and grouting control for each of the skirt cans on BP’s South Caspian Sea, Shah Deniz TPG 500 drilling and production platform.

Technip is completing the first stage of the Shah Deniz development, their contract includes the design, engineering, procurement, assembly, installation, hook up and project management of the self-installing fixed platform.

The skirt cans are to be mated with the platform legs in midwater during tow out using a Perry Slingsby Systems designed ballasting, flooding, dewatering and grouting system.  When grouted on the seabed, the skirt cans will provide the foundations for the drilling platform.  The skirt cans, each weighing approximately 1400 tones, will be floated out to the platform, submerged using the PSS valve control system, positioned under each leg and mechanically locked.  Once all three-skirt cans are secured to their respective legs, the platform will be towed to its drilling site.  PSS suction pumps will be activated, should the skirt cans not penetrate the hard seabed crust.  Once in position grout valves will be opened and cement foundations filled.

Martin Anderson, CEO and Managing Director of Perry Slingsby Systems stated “We are very pleased to be selected by BP and the Shah Deniz partners in this technically challenging project.  The contract recognizes Perry Slingsby Systems’ experiences and capabilities way beyond that of purely an ROV manufacturer and to that of a remote intervention technologies and equipment systems provider.
